Vegetables to boost your disease-fighting potential

Tomatoes

Tomato contains amazing amounts of lycopene which is said to have anti oxidant properties. Studies have shown that tomato can reduce prostate cancer especially in synergy with broccoli. A study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute suggested that ‘the intake of tomatoes and tomato products is associated with a decreased risk of prostate cancer. This benefit may be related to the antioxidant properties of lycopene, but other potential mechanisms and other beneficial tomato-based components instead of or combined with lycopene cannot be excluded’.

Broccoli

Broccoli contains a substantial amount of nutrients that are extremely good for health including vitamins A, C, folic acid, fiber and calcium. Broccoli contains an unusual combination of three phytonutrients, glucoraphanin, gluconasturtiian, and glucobrassicin. Together these nutrients have a strong impact on our body’s detoxification system. Eating raw broccoli is the best way to get all its offered nutrients.

Brussels sprouts

Brussels sprouts are very high in fiber, and they belong to the disease-fighting cabbage family. Indeed, they look like miniature cabbages. Like broccoli and cabbage -- fellow cruciferous vegetables -- Brussels sprouts may protect against cancer with their indole, a phytochemical. These little green veggies are especially important for pregnant woman because they're packed with folic acid, a B-vitamin that prevents neural tube defects. Brussels sprouts are also packed with vitamins C and K as well as fiber, potassium and omega-3 fatty acids.

Carrots

These orange-wonders are loaded with eye, skin and hair-enriching nutrients. They're also the richest vegetable source of some important antioxidants, like vitamin A. And because they're rich in vitamin C, carrots protect your cardiovascular system from damage. Along with 400% of your daily vitamin A, a serving of carrots will provide vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6, C, E and K, and plenty of fiber, manganese and potassium. Organic carrots have a little bit of everything.

Sweet potato

Sweet potatoes are absolutely loaded with nutrition and considered to be one of nature's most perfect vegetables. Packed with beta carotene and vitamin A, one serving of sweet potatoes provides more beta carotene than 23 cups of broccoli. One daily serving of sweet potatoes per day can greatly reduce your risk of heart disease, stroke, and even cancer.

Eggplant

Eggplants high amount of phytonutrients has the ability to protect brain cell membranes from free radical cells from damaging them. The high amount of B complex vitamins in eggplant also has the ability to keep us thinking clearly and prevent stress. The antioxidants in eggplant even have the ability to prevent brain tumors and cancer from forming by attacking the free radicals that cause tumors cancers.

Spinach

Spinach is a nutrition superstar, even a fairly good source of iron. It's loaded with vitamins and minerals, some of which are hard to find in other foods.

Onions

Onions are a very good source of vitamin C, B6, biotin, chromium, calcium and dietary fibre. In addition, they contain good amounts of folic acid and vitamin B1 and K. A 100 gram serving provides 44 calories, mostly as complex carbohydrate, with 1.4 grams of fibre. Onions contain a large amount of sulfur and are especially good for the liver. As a sulfur food, they mix best with proteins, as they stimulate the action of the amino acids to the brain and nervous system.

New target for breast cancer drugs identified

Scientists have identified higher levels of a receptor protein found on the surface of human breast tumour cells that may serve as a new drug target for the treatment of breast cancer.

Researchers found that elevated levels of the protein Ret, which is short for "Rearranged during transfection," are associated with a lower likelihood of survival for breast cancer patients in the years following surgery to remove tumours and cancerous tissue.

"Our findings suggest that Ret kinase might be an attractive and novel alternative therapeutic target in selected groups of breast cancer patients," said Nancy Hynes, Professor at the Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research and the University of Basel, Switzerland.

"Initial experiments in mice that serve as model organisms for the study of breast cancer have revealed that specific inhibitors significantly block the spread of cancer and decrease the number of metastatic tumours found in the lungs," Hynes said.

The scientists examined tumour tissue microarrays of more than 100 breast cancer patients who had undergone surgery to remove their tumours.  Antibodies were used to detect the levels of Ret in the samples. In other experiments, four different cancer cell lines were used and injected into mice to study the effects of Ret inhibitors on the progress and spread of the cancer.
"Our findings demonstrate that blocking Ret kinase not only decreases the growth of tumours but also impacts the potential of the cancer to spread throughout the body," Hynes said.

Targeting receptor tyrosine kinase enzymes with antibodies or small molecular inhibitors is a clinically validated approach for cancer therapy.

However, only a subset of patients are eligible for these types of treatments which makes it essential to discover additional inhibitors that could be useful in breast cancer therapy.

The study was published in journal EMBO Molecular Medicine.

The Rescuing Hug: A Touching Story Of Love & Life

The ‘Rescuing Hug’…This is an amazing story of twin baby girls. One baby was not expected to live. A hospital nurse fought to put them in the same incubator. The stronger baby wrapped her arm around her sister, and her touch allowed the struggling baby’s heart to stabilize and her temperature to return to normal. If you’ve never read this amazing story featured in Life Magazine and Readers Digest then keep you must hear this and see the amazing story of love and life…

Kyrie and Brielle Jackson were born on October 17th 1995 at the Massachusetts Memorial Hospital in Worcester, MA. Each of the twins weighted all of two pounds at birth. Though Kyrie was putting on a bit of weight in the days following her arrival, Brielle was not doing well. She cried a great deal, leaving her gasping and blue-faced.

Brielle was having a particularly bad day. Nurse Gayle in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit tried everything to calm her.

She held her.

She had her dad hold her.

She wrapped her in a blanket.

She suctioned her nose.

Nothing worked.

Then, she remembered hearing about a procedure done in Europe. She put Brielle in the incubator with her sister Kyrie. Almost immediately, Brielle snuggled up to Kyrie.

Her blood-oxygen levels, which had been frightenly low, soared.

She began to breathe more easily.

The frantic crying stopped and her normal pinkish color quickly returned.

Over the next weeks, her health improved steadily in her new, less lonely quarters. The children survived their rocky beginning and in time went home with their parents. When last heard from, Brielle and Kyrie were healthy preschoolers.

Bacteria useful functions for humans

Bacteria in the gut fulfill a host of useful functions for humans, including digestion of unutilized energy substrates, stimulating cell growth, repressing the growth of harmful microorganisms, training the immune system to respond only to pathogens, and defending against some diseases.

Colon is the site of salt and water absorption. Glands secrete large quantities of alkaline mucus that lubricates the intestinal contents and neutralizes acids formed by bacteria in the intestine. These bacteria aid in the decomposition of undigested food residue, unabsorbed carbohydrates, amino acids, cell debris, and dead bacteria through the process of segmentation and putrefaction. Short-chain fatty acids formed by bacteria from unabsorbed complex carbohydrates provide an energy source for the cells of the left colon. Maintenance of potassium balance is also performed by the colon, wherein the epithelium absorbs and secretes potassium and bicarbonate.

What is false labor ?

As you approach your due date, the painless and infrequent Braxton Hicks contractions that you may have been feeling since mid-pregnancy sometimes become more rhythmic, relatively close together, and even painful, possibly fooling you into thinking you're in labor. But unlike true labor, this so-called false labor doesn't cause significant, progressive dilation of your cervix, and the contractions don't grow consistently longer, stronger, and closer together.

Note: Not every woman experiences bouts of false labor. And in some cases, the strong, regular contractions of true labor come on with little or no warning.

How can I tell whether I'm in false labor or true labor?
Sometimes it's very hard to tell false labor from the early stages of true labor. If you're 37 weeks or more, here are some things that might help you sort it out:
False labor contractions are unpredictable. They come at irregular intervals and vary in length and intensity. Although true labor contractions may be irregular at first, over time they start coming at regular and shorter intervals, become increasingly more intense, and last longer.
With false labor, the pain from the contractions is more likely to be centered in your lower abdomen. With true labor, you may feel the pain start in your lower back and wrap around to your abdomen.
False labor contractions may subside on their own or when you start or stop an activity or change position. True labor contractions will persist and progress no matter what you do.

Features of true labour pain are:
-Painful uterine contractions
-Contraction with increasing intensities
-Show
-Progressive effacement and dilatation of cervix
-Formation of bag of waters

Normal Position Of The Baby

The term "fetal presentation" refers to the part of your baby's body that is closest to the birth canal. In most full-term pregnancies, the baby is positioned head down, or cephalic, in the uterus.

Breech Presentation:

If your baby is breech, his bottom is the part of his body closest to the birth canal. No one is sure what causes a breech presentation, but it happens in 3% to 5% of single-baby deliveries.
As your pregnancy nears full term, your caregiver will check your baby's position during regular prenatal visits. Common methods for assessing fetal position include vaginal exams, ultrasound, feeling your abdomen, and listening to the baby's heartbeat with a Doppler device.
There are three types of breech presentation: complete, incomplete, and frank.
Complete breech is when both of the baby's knees are bent and his feet and bottom are closest to the birth canal.

Incomplete breech is when one of the baby's knees is bent and his foot and bottom are closest to the birth canal.

Frank breech is when the baby's legs are folded flat up against his head and his bottom is closest to the birth canal.

There is also footling breech where one or both feet are presenting.

Complications of breech:

A prolapsed umbilical cord is common in breech deliveries. This happens when part of the umbilical cord slips down through the cervix before the baby does. The cord is then compressed during contractions, which cuts down on blood flow to the baby. An emergency cesarean section is usually needed.

At 28 weeks of pregnancy, approximately 20% of women have breech presentation.the fetus undergoes spontaneous version usually between 30th and 34th week.this corrects the breech position such that. At term only 3% of pregnant women have breech presentation

Aspirin can help prevent heart attack.

AHA Recommendation:

People at high risk of heart attack should take a daily low-dose of aspirin (if told to by their healthcare provider) and that heart attack survivors regularly take low-dose aspirin.

You should not start aspirin therapy without first consulting your physician. The risks and benefits of aspirin therapy vary for each person.

Know the risks
Because aspirin thins the blood, it can cause several complications. Talk to your doctor if any of these situations apply to you. You should not take aspirin if you:
-Have an aspirin allergy or intolerance
-Are at risk for gastrointestinal bleeding or hemorrhagic stroke
-Drink alcohol regularly
-Are undergoing any simple medical or dental procedures

PATENT DUCTUS ARTERIOSUS

The ductus arteriosus (DA) is an important vascular connection between the main pulmonary artery and the aorta. During fetal life, the DA diverts blood from the pulmonary artery into the aorta, thereby bypassing the lungs. After birth, the DA undergoes active constriction and eventual obliteration. A patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) occurs when the ductus fails to completely close after delivery.

PDA occurs commonly in premature infants, especially in those with respiratory distress syndrome. In very low birth weight (VLBW) infants (birth weight below 1500 g) the incidence of PDA is about 30 percent

NEURAL TUBE DEFECTS

-- Spina bifida occulta is the most common but least severe of these defects. It is marked by an incomplete closure of one or more vertebrae, with no protrusion of the spinal cord or the membranes covering the brain and spinal cord, called the meninges.

-- In meningocele, the incomplete closure of the vertebra is accompanied by a protrusion of the spinal fluid and meninges into an external sac.

-- Myelomeningocele results when the external sac contains meninges, cerebrospinal fluid, and a portion of the spinal cord or its nerve roots.

Space technology helps Sight Loss Using Telescope Technology

Technology normally used in the newest telescopes to find distant stars is now helping to diagnose the developed world's most common form of sight loss in adults.

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) leads to the loss of central vision when looking at something directly ahead, such as a television or book.

In the UK, the number of AMD sufferers is expected to rise to 750,000 by 2020.

Currently more than 1% of Britons aged over 60 suffer from some form of AMD.

Engineers at the UK Astronomy Technology Centre (UK ATC), part of the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), usually design and make instruments to detect faint light from distant stars and galaxies.

But now the specialist cameras, light technology and software have been adapted to create a unique "retinal densitometer", which can pick up the earliest stages of AMD by measuring, in the minutest of detail, how the eye responds to light.

It is being tested on patients by scientists from Cardiff University's School of Optometry and Vision Sciences .

Dr Tom Margrain, from the university, told Sky News there are overlaps in technology used in optometry and astronomy.

"Astronomers are often used to looking out into the space at very dim distant planets and galaxies and so on," he said.

"We have the same challenges in the human eye - there is very little light coming back from the human eye so really there is a great overlap in the technological approaches that we need in both disciplines."

Dr Dave Melotte, innovation manager at the UK ATC, said: "Astronomy technology and vision science might seem poles apart but put the right experts together and they are able to achieve things that would be impossible by either group in isolation."

So far 20 patients have been involved in testing the new technology.

Dick Jenkins did not realise he had AMD until one day he lost the central vision in his right eye.

He wants to know if his left eye will be affected, but he never thought this kind of technology would be helping patients like him.

"The first time I thought it was a bit bizarre, something which I never thought of, but obviously if the technology is good enough and it helps people then it will be great and I'm glad to be part of it," he said.

Until very recently there have been few treatment options available for AMD, but some treatments to delay or manage early signs of the disease are now being developed.

Early diagnosis is one of the most crucial factors for developing new treatments, but it is extremely hard to detect in the early stages and current tests are relatively crude.

The project has been welcomed by Minister for Universities and Science David Willetts.

"Space technology doesn't just tell us more about the universe - it also has applications right here on Earth," he said.

"This project is very promising for patients and shows that by working across disciplines scientists and engineers can develop innovative new solutions for a whole range of issues, including healthcare."

EYES CARE WHILE USING PC

During a recent visit to an optician, one of my friend was told of an exercise for the eyes by a specialist doctor that he termed as 20-20-20. It is apt for all of us, who spend long hours at our desks, looking at the computer screen.

I Thought I'd share it with you.

20-20-20

Step I :-

After every 20 minutes of looking into the computer screen, turn your head and try to look at any object placed at least 20 feet away. This changes the focal length of your eyes, a must-do for the tired eyes.

Step II :-

Try and blink your eyes for 20 times in succession, to moisten them.

Step III :-

Time permitting of course, one should walk 20 paces after every 20 minutes of sitting in one particular posture. Helps blood circulation for the entire body.

Circulate among all if you care. They say that your eyes are mirrors of your soul, so do take care of them, they are priceless.

An Apple keep doctors away;Health Benefits of Apple

Delicious and crunchy apple is one of the popular fruit that contain an impressive list of essential nutrients, which are required for normal growth and development and overall nutritional well-being.

Apples are low in calories; 100 g of fresh fruit slices provide only 50 calories. The fruits are however, contain no saturated fats or cholesterol; but rich in dietary fiber, which helps, prevent absorption of dietary LDL cholesterol in the gut. The dietary fibers also help protect the mucous membrane of the colon from exposure to toxic substances by binding to cancer causing chemicals in the colon.

Apple fruit contains good quantities of vitamin-C and beta-carotene. Vitamin C is a powerful natural antioxidant. Consumption of foods rich in vitamin C helps body develop resistance against infectious agents and scavenge harmful, pro-inflammatory free radicals from the body.

Apples are rich in antioxidant phyto-nutrients flavonoids and polyphenols. The total measured anti-oxidant strength (ORAC value) of 100 g apple fruit is 5900 TE. The important flavonoids in apples are quercetin, epicatechin, and procyanidin B2. Apples are also good in tartaric acid that gives tart flavor to them. These compounds help body protect from deleterious effects of free radicals.

In addition, apple fruit is a good source of B-complex vitamins such as riboflavin, thiamin, and pyridoxine (vitamin B-6). Together these vitamins help as co-factors for enzymes in metabolism as well as in various synthetic functions inside the body.

Apple also contains small amount of minerals like potassium, phosphorus, and calcium. Potassium is an important component of cell and body fluids helps controlling heart rate and blood pressure; thus counters the bad influences of sodium.

Health Benefits Of Wheatgrass

Wheatgrass possesses great energizing potential. Two ounces of wheatgrass juice is found to have the same vitamins and minerals content as that of 3 pounds of organic vegetables, or two cups of coffee.

Wheatgrass juice also carries some of the most essential nutrients. It is a rich source of vital minerals like zinc, iron, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, sodium, sulphur, calcium and cobalt. Wheatgrass juice has around 70% chlorophyll. This chlorophyll gets converted into hemoglobin which then boosts the red blood cells count. This, in turn, increases the oxygen carrying capacity of the blood which ensures that all the body parts get adequate quantity of oxygen and nutrients. It is also found to be advantageous in case of fluctuating blood pressure.

Wheatgrass is also high in proteins and contains several enzymes. Some of the essential enzymes that are found in wheatgrass are; Protease, which is beneficial in protein digestion; Cytochrome Oxidase, which is an anti-oxidant; and Amylase, which is effective in boosting the digestive process. In addition to these, it also contains amino-acids like Lipase, Transhydrogenase, which are crucial for the strength of the heart muscles as well as Superoxide Dismutase (SOD), highly critical for healing the damage caused by sun’s radiation.

Wheatgrass is rich in Vitamin B, C, E and carotene. All of these are highly efficacious in wiping out free radicals from the body. With sufficient saponin content, wheatgrass also boosts the lymphatic system of the body. Being anti-bacterial, it detoxifies the body by flushing away deleterious toxins from the body cells. It is also capable of crushing the hardened mucous. Drink wheatgrass juice on empty stomach to keep your organs feeling fresh and rejuvenated. To gain the maximum benefits, try to include it in your regular diet.

Amino acids, also referred to as the ‘building blocks of protein’, are found in high quantity in wheatgrass. Amino acids are crucial for human growth and reproduction of the cells within the body. Amino acids such as arginine, serine, absenisic, lysine, aspartic acid, glycine, alanine, methionine, leucine, tryptophane, phenylalanine and valine etc., are found in wheatgrass in adequate quantities. Thus, it is extremely essential for fitness enthusiasts to include wheatgrass powder or juice in their daily diet.

When applied externally, wheatgrass can offer relief from itching in no time. It has also been proven to be effective as a disinfectant and restores natural colour to sun-burnt skin. Wheatgrass can be beneficial in combating hair related discrepancies also and can soothe itchy and scaly scalp. Rub wheatgrass on your scalp and see the benefits. Moreover, wheatgrass is also efficacious in healing burns, scrapes, rashes, cuts, poison ivy infection, insect bites, boils, athlete's foot, sores and open ulcers.

It is also effective in restoring the alkalinity of the blood. As it is rich in alkaline minerals, it helps in curbing the acid content of the blood. Consumption of wheatgrass also heals internal pains. Wheatgrass is widely used for the treatment of peptic ulcers, constipation, ulcerative colitis and diarrhea.

Consumption of wheatgrass can even slow down the process of aging. It tightens up loose skin. It contributes towards making your nervous system stronger and increases mental clarity and also contributes towards improving eyesight.

Did you know that wheatgrass can create a healthy atmosphere around you? All you need is some land or pots around you to place wheatgrass in; it purifies the air around you and offers you the benefits of a healthy life.

Device can sniff out bladder cancer

A device that can sniff out early signs of bladder cancer has been developed by British scientists.

The Odoreader smells urine and detects differences in the odour from people who have bladder cancer in just 30 minutes.

Around 10,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with bladder cancer each year but there are currently no reliable biomarkers to screen patients for the disease, unlike in breast or cervical cancers. This means the cancer is first diagnosed through urine tests at a stage when it starts to become a problem. But researchers believe the Odoreader, which has a 100% success rate, could lead to the development of early diagnostic tests.
Professor Norman Ratcliffe from the Institute of Biosensor Technology at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) said: "It is thought that dogs can smell cancer, but this is obviously not a practical way for hospitals to diagnose the disease. Taking this principle, however, we have developed a device that can give us a profile of the odour in urine. It reads the gases that chemicals in the urine can give off when the sample is heated.

"Odoreader works by inserting a bottle containing the urine sample into the device. About 30 minutes later the Odoreader is capable of showing the diagnosis on the computer screen if sample derives from a patient with bladder cancer. It is simple to use and could be operated in a doctor's surgery."

Researchers from the UWE Bristol, the University of Liverpool and Bristol Urological Institute have spent four years developing the Odoreader. The device contains a sensor that responds to chemicals in gas emitted from urine. Odoreader, whose funding was partly provided by the Bristol Rotary Club, analyses this gas and produces a profile of the chemicals in the urine.

Scientists are then able to read the profile to diagnose the presence of cancer cells in the bladder. The research team is also using Odoreader to determine differences in odours from the urine of men with prostate cancer.

Professor Chris Probert, from the University of Liverpool's Institute of Translational Medicine, said: "Each year approximately 10,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with bladder cancer. It is a disease that, if caught early, can be treated effectively, but unfortunately we do not have any early screening methods other than diagnosis through urine tests at the stage when it starts to become a problem.

"We looked at 98 samples of urine to develop the device, and tested it on 24 patient samples known to have cancer and 74 samples that have urological symptoms, but no cancer. The device correctly assigned 100% of cancer patients. Bladder cancer is said to be the most expensive cancer to treat, due to repeated scopes to inspect the development of the cancer cells in the bladder.

"These results are very encouraging for the development of new diagnostic tools for bladder cancer, but we now need to look at larger samples of patients to test the device further before it can be used in hospitals."

Heart attach Warning signs and symptoms

Despite what you may believe, heart attacks rarely happen “out of the blue.”
In fact, your body may be trying to warn you of an impending heart attack for days, weeks, perhaps even a month or two before it occurs. Unfortunately, by the time you actually recognize you’re suffering a heart attack, it could be too late to prevent death or debilitating heart damage.

So-called silent heart attacks, with signs and symptoms that are mild or seem unrelated to the heart, have long concerned cardiovascular expert Dr. Chauncey Crandall. So Dr. Crandall recently created a special free video presentation about the four most sinister warning signs to watch for.

Statistics show a clear link between a delay in heart attack treatment and death or disability. That’s why it’s essential to know exactly what your heart is trying to tell you with warning signs like those discussed in Dr. Crandall’s video.
Although developed as an educational tool, this video rapidly went viral, surpassing 5 million viewers in just a few months.

Dr. Crandall, chief of the cardiac transplant program at the renowned Palm Beach Cardiovascular Clinic in Palm Beach, Florida, practices on the front lines of interventional, vascular, and transplant cardiology.

Decades of clinical experience have afforded him the chance to detect little-known warning signs and symptoms like the four he addresses in the video.
Plus, in the video Dr. Crandall also tells the real-life story of one man who suffered a “widow-maker” heart attack after ignoring the warning signs — and almost paid the ultimate price. The story is scary but eye-opening, because Dr. Crandall outlines what could have been done to actually prevent this from progressing to the life-threatening stage.
Dr. Crandall, medical editor of the Newsmax publication Heart Health Report, has a positive message: you don’t have to be a sitting duck for a deadly heart attack. In fact, according to Dr. Crandall, heart disease can be prevented — and even reversed — with the right information and simple lifestyle adjustments.

Good News:Two men cured of HIV virus in USA

Two men with HIV have been off AIDS drugs for several months after receiving stem-cell transplants for cancer that appear to have cleared the virus from their bodies, researchers reported on Wednesday.
Both patients, who were treated in Boston and had been on long-term drug therapy to control their HIV, received stem-cell transplants after developing lymphoma, a type of blood cancer.
Since the transplants, doctors have been unable to find any evidence of HIV infection, Timothy Henrich of Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston told an International AIDS Society conference in Kuala Lumpur.
While it is too early to say for sure that the virus has disappeared from their bodies altogether, one patient has now been off antiretroviral drug treatment for 15 weeks and the other for seven weeks.
Last July Henrich first reported that the two men had undetectable levels of HIV in their blood after their stem-cell treatment, but at that time they were still taking medicines to suppress HIV.
Using stem-cell therapy is not seen as a viable option for widespread use, since it is extremely expensive, but the latest cases could open new avenues for fighting the disease, which infects about 34 million people worldwide.
The latest cases resemble that of Timothy Ray Brown, known as "the Berlin patient", who became the first person to be cured of HIV after receiving a bone marrow transplant for leukaemia in 2007. There are, however, important differences.
While Brown's doctor used stem cells from a donor with a rare genetic mutation, known as CCR5 delta 32, which renders people virtually resistant to HIV, the two Boston patients received cells without this mutation.
"Dr. Henrich is charting new territory in HIV eradication research," Kevin Robert Frost, chief executive officer of the Foundation for AIDS Research, which funded the study, said in a statement.
Scientific advances since HIV was first discovered more than 30 years ago mean the virus is no longer a death sentence and the latest antiretroviral AIDS drugs can control the virus for decades.
But many people still do not get therapy early enough, prompting the World Health Organisation to call for faster roll-out of medicines after patients test positive.
Indian generics companies are leading suppliers of HIV drugs to Africa and to many other poor countries. Major Western HIV drugmakers include Gilead Sciences , Johnson & Johnson and ViiV Healthcare, which is majority-owned by GlaxoSmithKline

How to take care of your feet

Your feet are more important than you think. They contain roughly one-fourth of all the bones in your body
— and they take quite a beating as they support you and help you stay active. In fact, many people believe that the foot represents your overall health. A simple foot pain can signal numerous health conditions, some serious and others caused by wear and tear.
lot is riding on your feet, so take care of them. Just imagine if they got injured and became too sore for you to walk! A little foot love every day can go a long way. And daily foot care is simple with our foolproof tips. Here’s how to care for your feet every day.
 1- Keep them clean:
Wash and dry feet in the tub or shower. Clean between your toes. Use an antibacterial soap and a nail brush to scrub away dirt and grime.

2- Don’t drip-dry:
Dry feet thoroughly and carefully with a clean towel. This will help prevent athlete’s foot, a fungus that causes itchy, red, flaking skin between and around the toes.
3- Slough off the dead skin:
Smooth rough soles and the edges of your feet every day with a pumice stone. This removes the dead skin on your feet and helps prevent the skin from splitting, infection, and the buildup of calluses.
4- Moisturize your feet every day with an unscented lotion:
The skin on your feet is not naturally moist and needs the extra nutrients from a good quality lotion.
 5- Give ’em a rubdown:
Massage your feet every day as you moisturize to soothe sore, aching muscles and improve blood flow. Enjoy fragrant aromatherapy oils such as peppermint or chamomile.
 6- Go round and round:
Stretch your feet every morning by rotating your ankles in a circular motion, pointing and flexing your toes, and standing on your tiptoes to strengthen bones, tendons, and muscles.
 7- Soak it up:
Immerse your feet in a quick daily footbath. Fill with marbles and move feet gently on top of the marbles to stimulate the nerve endings.
 8- Give yourself a pedicure:
File your toenails so they’re smooth. File them straight across using an emery board, not a metal file. Avoid filing them too short or pulling on loose edges. Match the shape of your nail to the shape of your toe. This helps avoid splitting, ingrown toenails, fungus, and soreness. Push back the cuticles with a clean orangewood stick, and trim the excess if necessary.
 9- Wear the right shoes:
Wear comfortable shoes every day. Painful feet mean problem feet. Wear the right shoes for the right climate. Protect your feet in the rain and snow with proper waterproof footwear. If you walk or run for exercise, invest in top quality sneakers. In the summer, wear sandals so your feet can breathe. And don’t walk barefoot outside, as this can cause injury to your feet.
 10- Walk it off:
Walking stimulates the circulation to your feet and keeps them healthy and strong.
 11- Use good sock sense:
Avoid nylon socks and pantyhose and opt for more breathable cotton socks instead, if possible.
 12- Keep an eye out:
Examine feet for sores, infections, rashes, swelling, blemishes, or corns, and treat them promptly.
It only takes a little time each day to treat your feet well, and these tips can keep them healthy and beautiful all year long.

Information for Beautiful Clear Skin

1. Wash your face at least twice each day, using a
pure soap such as Ivory, and clean water. Hot
water opens pores, so wash with hot water. Cold
water closes pores, so splash your face with cold
water after washing to ensure that your pores are
protected from the environment. Splash with cold water before applying makeup as well.
2. Reduce the use of cosmetics as much as possible.
These clog pores. If you must wear makeup, make
sure that you are using hypoallergenic products, or
products for sensitive skin. Splash your face with
cold water before applying, and make sure you
wash all the makeup away before going to bed.
3. Keep you hair and hands off your face. Hair and
hands contain oils that can cause acne breakouts.
When applying creams or makeup to the face, use
applicators - not your hands. Don't lean with your
hands on your face either. Keep your hair pulled
back off your face.
4. Hydrate the body - and the skin - with water.
Hydrated skin is healthy skin. Water helps to
detoxify our bodies, and our skin, ridding us of
elements that make us ill, as well as elements that
can cause acne.
5. Eat a well balanced diet, and make sure that you
include plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Fruits
and vegetables contain quite a bit of natural
vitamin A and vitamin E, which is essential to good
skin care.
6. Don't avoid the sun altogether, because that isn't
healthy, but limit your time in the sun, and use a
good sunscreen. Overexposure to the sun, or
ultraviolet rays, can not only cause acne, but it can
cause skin to age quickly. It can also cause skin
cancer. Make sure you wash the sunscreen off when you come in from the sun to avoid getting
clogged pores.
7. Don't squeeze pimples, or pick at any sores. This
can cause the spread of acne, and it can leave scars
as well. Instead, treat the pimples and sores with
topical ointments and creams, keeping your hands
off of them. Use cotton balls or q-tips to apply
ointments and creams.
8.Stress is bad for the skin. Just as good hormones
and chemicals are produced and released when
we sleep, bad hormones and chemicals are
produced when we are stressed. Avoid stress as
much as possible, and learn to do deep breathing
exercises, or other stress reducing techniques, for those times when you are stressed.
